HP Sprocket Review and Giveaway

Go from social to print! Reinvent your memories with the HP Sprocket portable printer 🙂

I got the rose gold and white variant but it also comes in black 🙂

Super portable — ideal for travel or on-the-go ! You can instantly print your photos whenever, and wherever 🙂

Size Specs : 116 x 75 x 23 mm (4.53 x 2.95 x 0.87 in) 0.172 kg (0.379 lb)

Simple set-up — Just download the app and follow the instructions.
It uses Bluetooth 3.0 & Passive near field communication (NFC) to connect to your devices. Mobile operating system requirements — Android v4.4 and later / iOS v8.0 and later.

There’s also an edit photo option within the app — you can create a variety of photos making the experience more personal and fun!

Before starting, make sure you have film! I think it’s important to take note of how many sheets you’ve used up since the printer doesn’t indicate how many film sheets you have left (or I haven’t discovered where to find it in the app yet).

Charge time is up to 90 minutes using an internal rechargeable battery with a two-cell 500 mAh Li-Polymer 7.4 V.

It uses Thermal printing with a ZINK® Zero Ink® printer. The printer in itself does not require/use ink cartridges. It only supports HP ZINK® Sticky-Backed Photo Paper 5.0 x 7.6 cm (2 x 3 in) which you can buy the film for Php 540 (20 sheets) — here. You may opt not to remove the sticker so you can keep it in your wallet/etc.

The first time you print with every new film pack, the printer will initially release a blue sheet so don’t panic! Your photo is on it’s way, haha (I panicked). Printer tray capacity is up to 10 pages with the smartsheet. Printer memory is 512MB

My first print-out! So exciting to watch! The only downside I encountered with this printer is that it takes a bit long to send the image data to the printer (around a minute?); but maybe I’m just an impatient person, hehe.

PS: You can also queue photos you want to print and print them all in one go. I haven’t tried doing batch printing but I’m assuming once the data is delivered, printing won’t take long. Printing time in itself only takes a few seconds (up to 40 seconds at 313 x 400 dots per inch [dpi]) — already in full color/ no need to dry or wait for colors to show up.

I tried printing an edited (filtered) photo and a RAW file (straight from camera) and noticed that the colors are more vibrant/saturated when printed in RAW/unedited format 🙂 But if you like the washed-out look, print it with edits. I also noticed the magenta is a bit more vibrant so if you’re printing something with a lot of red/pink/magenta, you can try cooling it down a bit to get a better color output.

PS: Printer supports the following image files — BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG, and TIFF (iOS only). If you send a non-supported file type, the print job does not print.
