Tokyo Tokyo introduces new twist to its donburi [丼] line

When faced with the dilemma of picking restaurants, I will most probably go for Japanese cuisine — self-confessed Japanese food lover right here! I mean, who doesn’t love Japanese food, right? Its distinct taste, precise and artistic design offer a complete dining experience that complements Filipinos’ love for good food and presentation.

(Not to mention that it is almost always Instagram-worthy!)

Among the Japanese foods that captivated the Pinoy palate are teriyaki, tonkatsu, sushi, sashimi, ramen and gyoza. These put the taste buds to work with every spoonful bursting with flavors. Rice-loving and on-the-budget foodies, however, prefer the Japanese rice bowl, or donburi, more.

Donburi [] is the general term for Japanese dishes where meat, vegetables, or a combination of both is simmered together and then served over a bowl of rice. Compared with other dishes, this is easier to eat and is more affordable.

To celebrate the incredible following for donburi, Tokyo Tokyo, the leading Japanese restaurant chain in the country, observed last January the Donburi Festival where two variants were launched—the Cheesy Pork Katsu and Tofu Steak. A longtime staple of the chain, the Donburi line captures authentic Japanese flavor with each taste.

This month, following the success of the Donburi Festival, Tokyo Tokyo is once again introducing an exciting variation to the line—Teriyaki Meatballs Donburi.

This newest addition features juicy and savory tsukune meatballs with Japanese sauce and mayo served over a bowl of hot rice. The meatballs are made with chicken seasoned with onion, salt and pepper. The misono vegetable, nitamago egg and onion leeks make this bowl extra tasty.

The best part about the Teriyaki Meatballs Donburi? This flavorful and filling bowl is reasonably priced at P145, which means that this can be enjoyed anytime. Other donburi products available at Tokyo Tokyo are Pork Katsudon, Chicken Oyakodon, Beef Pepper Donburi, Tempura Donburi and Cheesy Pork Donburi.

So what are you waiting for? Head on to the nearest Tokyo Tokyo store and try the new Teriyaki Meatballs Donburi.
